I'd been wanting to do a number of covers for awhile. My idea was to find some deep cuts from artists I dig across a number of genres and sort of play them through the Jefferson Dust sound. As a result many of these cuts are about as close to live off the floor as I'm ever going to get. Some of these were songs I always heard a little different than the original artists recorded them (House that Jack Built is a good example of that...it seemed like it wanted to be more of an outlaw country type song than the psychedelic metal Metallica did it as). Other tracks I knew I'd never hew very close to how they were originally done so I didn't even bother, but the lyrics were so cool I definitely wanted to put my own spin on them (Right Where it Belongs and On the Nickel are like that). Others just a challenge to try to make something out of (Faster Horses and Use the Man are like that). The original tracks here were things I'd started along Price of Cutting Losses but as that record progressed these didn't really fit. But given how eclectic these songs are altogether, I thought they'd sit well (I deliberately put them at the end). Those are more or less live off the floor too (they're a lot looser than a typical JD song but I think that gives 'em more character). Enjoy!
