These are songs written almost entirely on cross country flights. When you're flying over the midwest on a clear night, you will see clusters of lights here and there. I grew up in a place like that and given the mass amount of flying I do, I'd reflect on some of the crazy characters and stories and backdrops of that town and how they probably exist in one way or another in all of these little midwest towns which is what led to this album. I set about writing the songs (most of which were actually written while traveling in Europe, The Foundry Life came from a particularly miserable night sitting outside the Rome airport all night due to a hotel mis-booking). The events and characters here are all things I observed from 1982 to approximately 2002.
