As part of my day job I spend a lot of time thinking about the future, where technology is going and how it'll afffect everyday life. One legitimate fear a lot of people have is impending replacement of white collar jobs by India or technology. This is an interesting juxtaposition against the last election cycle. I basically took one person (names changed to fit the meter) and chucked her scenario 10 years into the future. One of those really politically vocal people who saw herself as a victim of a government that wanted to redistribute her middle class income and give it to people who are too lazy to find a job. She expresses this worldview to anyone who'll listen whenever she's had a few. The interesting thing is, for the line of work she's in, I've seen and met the teams at certain financial institutions and a certain giant tech firm that are building software to effectively eliminate her career. She's got maybe 5-10 years left of being able to maintain her income. Then she'll be in her early 50's having to start all over. And then she'll depend on a support system.. What then? Will she still harbor those same feelings about the world being comprised of people who earn and people who are lazy? This is basically my take on how that will play out
