My grandpa Luther died before i was born. Like immediately before. He had a heart attack while driving and that was pretty much all she wrote. I wrote this from dad's perspective thinking about what kind of effect that must have when you lose a parent while you're about to bring a child into the world yourself. Your sense of mortality (I imagine) would be immediate brought to the front of your mind. Since I can remember my parents have been extremely mindful of their fitness and overall health and while he never outright admits it, I suspect some of this traces back to a desire to avoid putting his own children through the drama of dying young.
