Every two horse town has bars like this where when you walk in, it’s like time has stood still since 1979. This track is about one of them that’s actually in Cedar Falls called the Blue Room. When I lived there, the clientele likely had been exactly the same for 30+ years, and the bar décor and general vibe of the place reflected that. In the years just before I moved, the street it was on had more or less turned over entirely bringing a lot of contemporary restaurants and stores around it, which attracted a whole new crowd to the area. Most of the patrons didn’t seem thrilled about this, but yet there the Blue Room was, with its Orange Crush Soda sign hanging out front. It’s still there, although the bartender who worked there since the early 80’s recently passed away and I’m told it’s been renovated.
