Waterloo has a twin city called Cedar Falls. For as long as I can remember Cedar Falls residents looked down on Waterloo as the poor people town. This sentiment was expressed in Chamber of Commerce meetings, and zoning for municipalities quite loudly in the local papers. An outsider would look at the situation and think it's absurd, yet anybody who was living in knew exactly what was going on. There was definitely a deep seated race undertone in the whole thing. At the end of the day, the towns were indistinguishable from each other and I'm given to understand the rift isn't nearly as palpable as it once was.
