about

I’m at a point in my life where I’m firmly in my 40’s, one kid is 18 the other is in grade school. I have a day job that is about as career-ish as you could possibly get (I even have an exit strategy!). But situations change. My biggest theme on these tracks is the transient nature of life that (at least for me) has gotten really apparent. There’s something about a kid getting ready to leave the house that makes you realize how fast life moves. The things that I thought would be super tough a decade ago (raising a family, buying a house, making enough money to fund the whole operation) have become the easy parts and the hard parts now are things I didn’t even think about back then (health, managing a team, plotting eventual old age and paying for kids to go to college). I’m fully aware now that these stresses, joys etc etc will morph into different things 5-10 years from now. There’s a line in the track Permanence and Passing Through that says “A Man in his 40’s has to make the transition between immortal and a certain demise” and I thought that was a pretty good summation of the EP. Once you start seeing eras of not just your life, but your kids lives end/change, the lack of permanence in life really hits you in the face. We all go through it in different passes. These songs are my thoughts on that idea.
