This is the longest Jefferson Dust track but it needed to be this long to tell the story. I was sitting there watching TV with my wife when this guy starts IM'ing me telling me he's now married to a girl I dated in college and apologizing for breaking up the relationship (this was water so far under the bridge for me I don't even). It sounded like it'd been bothering him for awhile and then he told me the whole story about how his now wife (Angie) was suffering from some serious mental disorders that had only come to surface in recent years. Schizophrenia, psychosis etc...all leading to violent reactions to things, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations the whole bit. This song is basically what he told me. It's an awful thing to have to raise kids and give them a semblance of a normal life when your partner is dealing with mental issues like that. He was talking to me less about her being his wife and more her being somebody he has to provide care for. Even though I'd never met him my heart went out to the guy. The problem exacerbated itself because they live in a small town in Iowa and if you've ever lived in a place like that you know everybody knows everybody's business. So he's got all the gossip shit to deal with, his kids are getting made fun of in school because of things she'll do etc. I was sort of on the fence about committing the scenario to a song but I'm glad I did.
